Description
Paleo Profile: Gastornis giganteus. A giant of its time, Gastornis is known as one of the "terror birds" of Earth's history. Much debate has gone on over this animal's diet as to whether or not it was strictly carnivorous or herbivorous. Lacking the hook at the end of its beak like most predatory birds, it is believed this colossus was capable of cracking open large seeds or deliver a lethal blow to prey. As with most birds, an opportunity to ingest animal protein is rarely passed up so the probability Gastornis was omnivorous is highly potential. Whether this animal's beak was made for crushing bones or reaping vegetation, it was a very unique adaptation amongst the lineage of birds. This is viewer GeneralHelghast request. Enjoy!

I always thought of it as an opportunistic scavenger that may have mostly eaten plant vegetation but would've probably snapped up the occasional piece of carrion or small animal.
