Description
Paleo Profile: Alamosaurus sanjuanensis. This dinosaur is part of a unique group of sauropods called the Titanosaurs. Sauropods are generally associated with the Jurassic; until recently it was very unusual to find a long necked dinosaur of this size during the Cretaceous period of the mesozoic. Close relatives of the Alamosaurus had armored covered bodies leading many to think that it too had some form of armor fortifying its already gigntic size. It had roamed in what today is Utah, New Mexico, and Texas of the United States. It gets its name from the Ojo Alamo Formation from which it was discovered. From what remains have been found of the Alamosaurus, scientists speculate it could very well have been one of the largest known sauropod found in North America. Enjoy!
